Safety
Many people are initially concerned about the safety of our sport, after all, it is a combative sport – and we are using weapons!
As an organization, we at Fencing New Brunswick, are aware of the potential for injury and have taken care to maintain our sport as safe and fun.
There are safety rules of conduct for participants both on and off the field of play, and during training and competition. These rules have been established by our international body, Fédaration Internationale d’Escrime and adopted by our national sport association and governing body, the Canadian Fencing Federation.
In addition, all participants are required to wear protective clothing (usually supplied by the club for beginners) of the jacket, mask and glove. Male participants are required to have and wear athletic supporters and female participants are required to wear the chest protectors as supplied in the jackets.
