GET INVOLVED ! BE A VOLUNTEER FOR FENCING !
The more people who contribute their ideas, skills, time and energy to our organization, the more opportunities there will be for people in New Brunswick to enjoy the sport of fencing. There are many ways you can help, depending on your skills and interests. Some opportunities involve working independently from your home while others bring you into contact with other volunteers at a variety of events. Some tasks are limited to specific events while others are completed over a longer period of time.
Training for Volunteers: If you are interested in a specific volunteer job but need training, FENB will match you with someone to provide training and support while you learn.
Opportunities to Work with Others on a Committee
- Fundraising Committee: Immediate Need For Volunteers
FENB requires annual fundraising initiatives that support its ongoing operational expenses as well as the provincial high performance program, tournaments and leadership training.
Annual goal: $15,000.
Current need: At least one experienced fundraising volunteer who can guide other committee volunteers to create an overall fundraising plan that is sustainable over time.
- Publicity Committee: Immediate Need For Photographers
Help plan and implement activities to increase public awareness of fencing in New Brunswick. Prepare “backgrounder information”, press releases, photographs for distribution to news media and social media.
Current need: At least one experienced volunteer with knowledge of news and social media activities who can guide other committee volunteers to create an overall publicity strategy for FENB.
- Archives, Honours & Awards Committee:
To preserve, promote and celebrate the heritage of fencing in New Brunswick for the benefit of present & future generations, to recognize and instill pride in the accomplishments of New Brunswick fencers and fencing leaders, and to honour those who have contributed to the development of fencing in New Brunswick.

Opportunities to Work Independently at Home
- Membership Registrar:
To receive membership forms, process fees, liaise with CFF members database and maintain up-to-date lists of members. Computer skills required.
Current volunteer: Mark Dobson
- Archives Volunteer:
To review old FENB documents and compile historical information for recognition of the history of FENB.
- Atlantic Youth Rankings Statistician:
To receive tournament results, keep a computerized, up‑to‑date ranking list of competitiors by event, compile rankings to be posted on the FENB website. Computer skills required.

- Web Manager:
To keep the FENB website information up‑to‑date and interesting to visitors.

Opportunities to Support Tournament Organization
There is a lot of work to ensure that tournaments run smoothly and enjoyably for all participants.
The key roles in tournament organization are:
- Secretariat volunteers:
To prepare all the necessary event paperwork including registration lists, seeding lists, scoring sheets and results using a designated software program. Computer skills and training are required. Volunteers need to work on site throughout an event.
Current need: FENB would like to recruit & train two new volunteers from each club.
- Armoury volunteers:
To ensure that tournament equipment is set up to meet standards & personal equipment is tested to meet standards. Electrical knowledge and repair skills are required. Volunteers need to work on site throughout an event.
Current need: all clubs could benefit from more volunteers with a knowledge of armoury standards and how to repair fencing equipment.
- Floor Manager:
To keep events running on time through announcements, information postings, and support to referees. Volunteers need to project their voice well, be pleasantly directive and work on site throughout an event.
Current need: FENB would like to recruit & train two new volunteers from each club.
- FENB Equipment Manager: Immediate Need
To maintain an inventory and keep tabs on all FENB owned equipment, arrange for training of others to assist in the repair of equipment, maintain tournament equipment during competitions, advise FENB on the purchase of replacement parts and new equipment.
Current need: A volunteer in the Fredericton area with strong coordination skills and an interest in armoury.
